The epicenter of Austin's continued housing boom rests in Central Austin. Central Austin is one of the most popular areas in Austin due to its proximity to downtown, walkable neighborhoods and mix of residential property among an eclectic mix of employers. Neighborhoods that were once considered to be the outskirts of town have now become considered part of the central core.
In Central Austin you'll find established neighborhoods with homes built in the 1940s and 1950s intermingled with brand new modernist construction. You’ll also find some historic homes, built closer to the turn of the century, closer to what is now considered as Downtown Austin. Central Austin is perfect for someone who wants to be close to downtown amenities but would prefer to live in a unique established neighborhood.
Today, Central Austin is generally defined as the area surrounded by Lake Austin and MoPac, IH-35 and Highway 183 and features such beautifully established neighborhoods as West Enfield, Rosedale, and Tarrytown.
